I went to my local big box pet store this weekend after doing some loach research planning on trying to pick up a snail eating variety that would also be entertaining. They had clowns (no surprise there) and the BBLs which they were calling Angelicus Botia. I wasn't that familiar with the BBLs but I thought they were cool looking and I knew that they were (a) community safe and (b) grew to 4-6" maximum size. They were also on sale for half price, which didn't hurt! I bought 4 of them on Saturday and they are the only fish I have ever had that were active immediately upon being added (after acclimatization) to my tank. They entertain themselves by swimming up to and over the brackets for my heater and filter intake and then coasting down to the bottom. They are as curious as cats--always exploring everywhere. I went back on Sunday and bought the three remaining ones. My otos swim and play with them even though the BBLs are three times or more their size. They've even made my tetras more active. Oh, and yes, they do eat snails!
And yes, I know 7 fish is probably more than I should add at once, but I am closely monitoring the water conditions and I will do water changes, etc. if needed.
Thanks for allowing me to rave!
:dance2:
BTW, shouldn't they be called Myanmar Border Loaches now?
