Anyone ever heard of a butterfly grouper. My wife brought one home today.(1") for my 20g with no middle or upper level fish. It is beautiful fish but I don't know anything about it.

I'm going to assume it will get way too big for your tank... most groupers get to be at least a foot long
It's really best you take that fish back and talk to the manager of that store.
I'm pretty sure your fish is a Vespicula depressifrons, Butterfly Wasp Fish.

alrighty! thanks for the info Tropical North.. so now that we know that it is not, in fact a grouper, but a GOBY that makes me happy. I learned that they only get about 2.5 inches in captivity and they will live in fresh or brakish water. They are perfect for our tank. We really wanted a fish that would live mid to upper levels but another bottom dweller is ok too. I think it's a great fish!
