Where is the best place to buy fish? I buy mine at Petsmart. I found Walmart's fish to be sick and not in the best of health. What do people think of buying fish at Petsmart? Is it ok?

My fish are all healthy from there by the way.

well if you see any dead or sick fish in the tank you are buying from dont buy from that tank

i use petsmart sometimes but most of the time i go to a place that only sells fish and fish stuff

Thanks..that's why I don't like Walmart! They always have dead fish!

yore welcom and yeah if they have sick or dead fish in the tank dont buy from that tank theres a big chance that your fish will get sick

Walmart and pet specific stores like pets---- have banks of tanks on central circulation systems.

Either they have good care and decent fish or the whole thing goes. Walmart's cheap buying habits mean thier supplyer cuts corners and the fish sent to them arn't healthy. I don't know the quality of the pet chain store supplyers.

Thanks! I only buy my fish from Petsmart!

Any place can have good or bad fish. I have had some fish from petsmart for over a year. I have also purchased some fish from a place I've been purchasing from since 1968 without a single fish loss and watched my panda corrys die one by one. (I think it was a bad batch.)

I have a Saturn (auto) and never had any trouble. A close friend has the same year, make, & model, purchased from the same dealer. She has had nothing but trouble. We even have about the same number of miles on our cars.

Look the store over. Examine the fish and talk with the employees. Get there early in the day. Many places lose a lot of fish but take the floaters out in the morning. Look at the tanks and see if you can detect a fishy smell (bad sign.) Look for listless fish, clamped fins, or, if you are familiar with a certain species, any behavior that is unusual. See if you can watch the employees feed them. Ask a few questions to test the knowledge of the employees. Then, make a decision if you want to trust their fish.

One other thing. No matter where you buy, a quarantine tank doesn't hurt.

Exellent advice.

I've only brought my fish from Petsmart. I've only attempted to buy 2 different fish from a different LFS... they always ended up dead. Petsmart is the only great place for me to go to around here w/o having to drive for an hour to another city.
