Buying from Petsmart

i bought my oscar from petsmart....it was ok for awhile then died
 
I bought an oscar too. Had him for about 10 months when I finally decided to part him and an albino oscar off for africans instead. My friend gets fish from there and they seem fine. I would say that each Petsmart is going to vary anyway.
 
I've heard lots of bad things about different petsmarts and petcos. When I was first starting out I didn't know any better and bought my Oscar and Pl*co from there. I've had them both for 4+ years and they're doing great.
 
I would have to agree. I don't usually buy fish from any chain petstore. I will have to admit though I have bought fish from Petco and Walmart but that was only because it was one of a kind fish. I bought some shubunkins for the pond. My favorite fish is from Petco and is several years old now and doing fine.
 
i mostly try to go to stores that specialize in fish but i buy products from petsmart and ive bought some mollies from petsmart but i have never bought cichlids from there. I bought my convicts from a very good lfs that works with aquatic interiors. I also am impressed with Jacks Aquariums & Pets. I buy most of my fish from them but petsmart is by far the closest store to me.
 
I have been buying my fish from Petsmart and I have had good luck. My options are slim. In town I only have a walmart which I will NOT buy fish from unless I examine things with extreme scrutiny. My other option is to go to Phoenix which is an hour away and the closest thing there is PetSmart or Petco.
 
It totally depends on which store. I bought an Oscar from there and kept it for 2 years till I sold him. I bought my 6 glow-light tetras there 6 months ago and they are fine. The reason I avoid them now is they use one water supply for all fish which I'm not fond of. I believe it spreads disease. Of course they treat the water so they are fairly safe, but now I work at a LFS so no need to go there. The LFS I work at and another next to my house have individual tanks setup.
 
The petsmart near me is where I always buy fish ... but never the petco ... bad times there.

My cichlids are from petsmart -- they've been very healthy.
