I had my 5lb c02 tank on my 100 gallon run out this last week, took a few days before i realized and I had a small spot or two of hair algae crop up.

I have a new tank in place now, but was wondering what algae eater does best on hair algae. I aws thinking Ammano shrimp. but a friend suggested Flagfish. Opinions?

I've tried both and Amanno shrimp are the better of the two providing you don't have fish that will make snacks out of them. Flagfish tend to eat the algae but also will Munch some of the more tender plants Rotala Wallichi, and Foxtail was they're favorite. If you do try Amano's I would suggest to get quite a few of them (maybe a dozen or two) Amano himself recommends two per gallon (overkill IMO) I have a dozen in a 46 gallon and have seen no trace of hair algae since I've had them.

This is in my 100 gallon which currently just has a small group (17) or Cardinal tetras, one rubber lip pleco (about 2 inches long), 2 ramshorn snails, and some Malaysian Trumpet Snails. I hope to have this as my smaller fish peaceful type of tank. Not to mention lower ph and more amazon like surroundings. (it's currently at about a 6.7-6.8 ph)

I currently have a couple swords, some red and green wedntii, as well as some Chain swords, Giant Red Rotala, Corkscrew Val, and Pearl Grass.

Once I get this spot of algae under control i'm going to be putting up some pictures.

I recently contacted someone through whom i'm going to be picking up 50 Ammano shrimp but younger ones (in the quarter to half an inch long range). I figure to give them a try and see once they make it through quarentine.
