cabomba growing strings?

I just got a good look at my purple cabomba growing in my tank and noticed something strange. Every single one of my cabombas are growing strings out towards the bottom of the tank. Any idea what these are? I've never seen this before, so forgive my ignorance. The tank is relatively new, but fully cycled. parameters are as follows:

pH: 6.8
GH: 160 ppm
nitrate: 30 ppm
nitrite+ammonia: 0
watts per gallon of light: 4.2
DIY co2 system, acceptable levels of co2

I also use both flourish and flourish trace as additive supplements.

Thats what I thought, but its coming out from all levels of the stem structure, not just the bottom...

Well, I'm open to any and all suggestions, because it is obvious I have no idea what I'm talking about... :o
 
I have the same thing coming out from mine. I am pretty sure they are roots. It seems like you could then plant Cabomba like Hygro: lay it on its side and it will root and then send up new shoots all along the length. This is a great way to get lush groups of Hygro (as compared to planting bunches). I am going to try it with the Cabomba and see what happens.
 
Temple does that too and will raise new tops along the stem when laid over.

Ludwigia does that too.

your plant is just preparing itself for propagation. my cabomba actually lay on their sides after they grow to a certain size in order to produce more meristems.
