Is a 37g to tall for a mated pair of discus ?

I am cycling a 37 that could house a pair of angel form a 20h or the pair of discus. I could move my angels form my 29 thats use to form pairs and put them in there.

:help: me decide which is best.

20H,29 or 37 or some other size? what are your thoughts

ps they are coming out of a 90 community tank

if you keep the 37 bare bottom and only keep the discus they should be fine.

How old are they or how big are they, and what kind do you have?

too tall? I would think the 37 should be fine.

I know some that use 20H and others that use 40 breeders.
I use 29's for my angels and they would be appropriate for typical Discus.
I am going to move my pair over to a 29 ..but if I had a taller tank I would use that.

Taller is generally not as ideal for discus. The more surface area you can have the better. It allows for more gas exchange which is critical for discus that need the higher temps for water. I'd opt for the 29 out of those choices, after that I'd choose the 20H.

while I do agree, that in some taller tanks there may be issues for gas exchange with the smaller surface area..
this does not make tall tanks bad.
discus are tall fish adults can be nearly as tall as Angels.

but I always opt for tall tanks for breeding fish..I don't recommend 20H for them but prefer a tank with a larger footprint and is tall..like a 29. (tall with a larger footprint as a choice over a 30 G which has a larger footprint but is shorter)

but a 37 should be fine.
