Long story short I was given a betta and I would like to put him in a larger tank then the little vase I was given. Would he be ok going in with my guppies in the 30 gallon tank after his QT period, or would he chew on the guppies or visa versa? I have read they can be put in together and I have read they can't, does anyone have any experience in this matter? Opinions wanted.

Thanks ahead of time.
:)

I've had a the two together, and it's not advised. The two tend to beat each other up, tearing fins, etc. The betta will eat any fry you have, as well.

I'd just get a 5 gallon tank for the betta. Add some kuhli loaches, and plants, call it good. Better in the long run.

The only thing I would be concerned about is if the betta mistook the long fins of a male guppy for a challenging male betta. I've heard of that happening before. Perhaps you could put him in for a while to see how he behaves.

THIS IS TRUE. i placed 1 betta and 2 guppies together, in 5 mins the guppies' tails were shreded, had a portion missing.

so please don't.

i have read this numerous amount of times, betta's can mistake the guppies for other betta and visa versa, although i'm not sure wheather you can put guppies with female bett's maybe someone else can answer that one but don't put it with a male, ( the one with the long flowint fins). Betta's origanate from small puddles and therfore can survaive in very little water hence the vase, which to be honest i think it slighty cruel, imagine being stuck in a 2 foot by 1 foot room and that's it.... Anyway i would recommend at least a 1.5 - 2 gal maybe even a 5 gal the betta will think it's in heaven, bettas are very terrtitoral and i have heard of bettas getting streessed if there is tooo much room, they do prefer no current from a filter though i do know people who have kept them with, just get some gravel and a few plants to hide in make sure they are silk as platsic can tear the fins, a good test is to run a pair of tights i think you call them pantyhose down them and if it's ladders it is no good for the betta, betta also like some livefoods such as bloodworms i use to have trouble getting mine to eat flake food, hope this helps and good luck.
