Can full grown guppies and endlers breed through a canvas mesh divider? The kind you find at the craft store by the yarn, I guess.

I was thinking of switching out my two 10 gallons for one 20 gallon with a DIY divider in the middle to keep the males and females from breeding. You know, males on one side and females on the other.

They make whoopy, so probably not... unless you believe the "I got preggo by sitting in a hot tub" story

but seriously, in our petco, they all live in the same system and share the same water, but they can't actually get to each other. We've had a couple births, but the females seem to have come to our store preggers. none of our ugly long-termers get pregnant

Not sure if guppies share the same ability as platies do to store sperm for later use or not. If they do, you'll end up with fry no matter what.

Considering how Guppies do it, theoretically they could make contact through a very thin divider, but in practice the way females generally try NOT to breed makes such an encounter extremely unlikely.

The males and females have been separated for more than a year now so nobody's storing sperm this long. I'm glad this can work out! Thanks guys.
