Anyway, all four of my female RCS are now berried, and due to hatch in a week or two - hooray!

If they all have a decent brood, I will have a population explosion in their small tank.

Will they keep their eggs if moved to another tank with similar water conditions (same temp, 25*C, slightly more acidic - 7.2 vs 7.4, no predators)?

Or would it be better to wait till the eggs hatch and move the babies?

Congrats on the shrimp. mine are also prego. :) first time ive ever gotten RC's and they where babys about 2-3 weeks and now two of them are berried :) im also expecting in about 2 weeks. :) i would assume its ok to move them, like MG said , once they hatch , the preditors will surly eat up all the babies, so i would move them

Congrats to you too - I've only had mine for a couple of months. They are fun, and fast breeders! I've had one lot of eggs hatch already, but only half a dozen young. There are no predators where they are now, though, or where I'm thinking of moving them to.

They can move incredibly fast.

I'm considering trying some in a tank with guppies and corys.

We put RCS in the 20G with guppy frys & corys about 1-2 months ago. Two of our RCS are berried and at least one of them is imminent. We have not much options. Leave as it is OR move those Two RCS to breeder box. What should I do?

If it makes you feel any better, I had some shrimp arrive yesterday. One shrimp was berried and 4 days in the mail and she was still berried. So I think you'd be safe moving your RCS. I think they have to undergo a lot of stress or have an infertile berry to drop them. Good luck, enjoy the new babies :D

Thanks old lady, that's reassuring. I've never bought critters by mail, and I'm amazed they can cope with being in transit for so long.

june 2000, the current shrimp are in with some guppy fry, and for what it's worth, they don't seem interested at all in the shrimp. Although these are fry of a week or two old, and the youngest shrimp are two to three weeks (which makes a big difference in size).

I don't know about risking new-hatched fry with older guppies. I imagine they might be vulnerable just after hatching and would need some cover, but could certainly outrun a guppy once they get going.
