can I use silicone?

Like others have said, 100% pure silicone is just that... pure silicone and safe for aquarium use! But, like others have also said, some of the silicones have added chemicals, especially the anti-fungal/mildew stuff... these would not be good! The windows and doors stuff should be fine, I've used that before, but try to steer clear of the kitchen and bath stuff. Kitchen and bath stuff almost always seems to have the added antifungal/mildew stuff, at least in the more expensive stuff like the II. I've used the Silicone I before on tanks no problems. However, if you take a look in the 'speciality' adhesives section of Home Depot, they do actually carry aquarium silicone for pretty cheap. about 1/2 what you pay at a fish store. And then there are no worries!

Good luck,
