Hi Friends,

The only activated carbon I get here cheaply is the one which the common RO Water Filter suppliers use and sell. The granules are small (like small chippings) and shiny and are not like the normal aquarium carbon which looks like small cylindrical sticks.

Just wanted to know if it is ok and effective to use this carbon for chemical filtration of my Frontosa Tank ?

I plan to use about 500 Grams of this carbon on my 50 Gallon tank and change it monthly.

Kindly guide me Friends...
Thanks and Regards
Kush

Yeah the carbon u have sounds very similare to ehiem carbon. 500grams is a lot of carbon to use on that small tank per month, many media can be reused when rinsed and washed properly. Make sure u clean it a few times in aquarium water.

Carbon is good as a water scrubber as is a cleaning systwem used along with bio balls ceramics and sponges. Use as an extra and not as a primary filter media. I use all of the above inmy filters but no long bother with carbon. Filter media is prmarily sponge for bacteria an bio balls a must. U can get cheap filter media on ebay or other online stores, make sure u price per content and not just on price. Happy fish keeping
