Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows if a Swortail will mate with a Platy or Mollie? And if so does anyone have pictures of the fry or grown up results? and what would they be called? Thanks for the help!

PS. Im NOT trying to breed them at all. Its just that I have them all in the same tank and the Swordtails seem to "WANT" some of the "OTHER" fish.

A swordtail may mate with a platy, but I advise against it, hybrids really screw up some parts of the hobby. A swordtail definetly wouldn't breed with a mollie.

A platy and swordtail cross breed would be called either a swordtail and platy mix (common name) or xiphophorus macualtus x xiphophorus helleri (latin name)

some posts I suggest you read, for the most part dealing with the subject of hybrdization:

I might have to question this. I know that they are of different geniuses, but I have heard alot of conflicting info about this. Although even if they do successfully breed (they will gladly attempt breeding) I suppose it is not common.

Personally, my problem wouldn't be keeping the 2 species together, but if they were to breed, I would definitely cull all the hybrid fry...feed them to my cichlids or something like that.

Does anyone have pictures of any such hybrids?

Thanks for the link .
