last spring i picked up a 10g w/ ugf & power head (unknown make),stones and plastic plants for $15. after setting it up i thought ok, this might not flow enough water. i left it w/ no fish for about 3 weeks and it never really cleared up and then BOOM, crystal clear. then about 2 days ago i noticed that the ugf & power head was lacking, so i removed them for cleaning. they needed it bad, now the power head blows soooo much more water out, my fish (Red eye tetra, Scissor tail, cory and algea eater) are all hiding to get out of the current, what can i do or what did i do wrong?

Yes it is possible...if you can't regulate the flow, try to diffuse it by positioning the flow against the glass or by rocks, etc.

I have tried those options, i think i might need one of those adjustable valves

also you can by a 10-20 Tetra power filter that has a regulator to allow a small, medium or large current. worth the investment, i paid 22 dollars for mine. works perfect

Stick a piece of coarse foam on the outlet to diffuse it.
