Can there be too many air bubbles?

Hey All,

I was just wondering if there can be a concern for too many air bubbles on the surface of the water being produced by air wands? I have 2 different air wands in my tank and when they have been running for awhile about 60-75% of the waters surface is covered in bubbles. If I unplug them the bubbles go away in a matter of a couple of minutes so I know it's what is causing them.

As of right now I don't have any live plants so that's not a concern and they don't bother me being on the surface, I just don't want them to be harmful to the fish if there are too many. I really like the wands being in the tank, but if it's a problem I will pull them. I'm guessing if it's not going to harm anything I would just have to turn them off before feeding the fish.

not at all... though if the bubbles are staying longer than normal (ie. not popping for a few mins) you might wanna check your nitrate levels and do some water changes as that would indicate a higher than optimum TDS and protein level in the water. :)

Thanks for the very quick reply,

There are no fish in the tank yet and I haven't started my fishless cycle so I don't think it could be high nitrates or protien levels :), I will be starting the cycle in a couple of days. I just didn't want to get things started if it would harm anything once the cycle was complete.

I guess that means the air wands can stay.:headbang2:

ahhh, i see... yeah, go ahead and start the cycle.. likely, when the tank matures with its stock in a few months, that stuff will go away. :)

Here are 3 pictures without the air wands going, notice there are no bubbles on the surface. The other pictures show just how many bubbles there are when they are running.

oh, that's just fine then! :) no problems at all. i thought you meant almost a sudsy type buildup of bubbles. :)
 
i wouldn't think it would be a problem. love the dragon by the way
