I have also witnessed the sad result of such overstocking.

So many people say, "I hate goldfish." How is that even fair? Look at what people do to these poor things.

It is. They are beautiful fish and oh how I would like to steal them all and find them a big pond somewhere....

It is fascinating to see that many of them at that size, but it upsets me at the same time.

Most of those restaurants buy the fish larger so that people have something to look at. They want something pretty to look at NOW!. Then a couple of months later when they all die they buy new ones. Lots of them probably spent some time in a pond somewhere in order to get that size. They definitely didn't grow in that tank.
