Can you dye sand?

Dye sand? How would you dye it? You want natural sand and NO DYE. Real black sand is volcanic sand.
 
You can buy back sand from Marine Depot, so I'm sure you can get it some other places. I don't think dye in a salt tank would be a good idea.

Totally agree with Greg. I don't think dye in ANY tank would be a good idea.

This is an expensive hobby, and cutting corners will only lead to losses and disappointment. ;)
 
The colored rock you see in the stores has some sort of plastic coating on it.
 
Anything dyed should be avoided IMO. I have black gravel in one of my FW tanks that has turned to gray overtime. It'd be even worse in corrosive SW I would think. The black sand is just that, black (natural) sand (i.e. Tahitian Moon).
 
thats why you can go into a store and get almost every color or any color you want, because its all natural, read the back of the bag next time
