is this true? can i dye sand and save a ton of money trying to fill my 100 gallon - with black sand by dye'n it?

Dye sand? How would you dye it? You want natural sand and NO DYE. Real black sand is volcanic sand.

You can buy back sand from Marine Depot, so I'm sure you can get it some other places. I don't think dye in a salt tank would be a good idea.
Totally agree with Greg. I don't think dye in ANY tank would be a good idea.
This is an expensive hobby, and cutting corners will only lead to losses and disappointment.
Anything dyed should be avoided IMO. I have black gravel in one of my FW tanks that has turned to gray overtime. It'd be even worse in corrosive SW I would think. The black sand is just that, black (natural) sand (i.e. Tahitian Moon).
How do u think they turn it certain colors in the store? I dont think pink sand is something natural
The Marine use sand is natural. Yes, there is pink Fiji sand commonly available. I don't think about how they turn it colors, I KNOW that they don't.

thats why you can go into a store and get almost every color or any color you want, because its all natural, read the back of the bag next time
