can you feed big fish dog food??

Can or should? Yes, you can, but dog food will not provide the needed nutrition for the fish--much too high in the wrong kind of fats.

How did I know as soon as I read the title of this thread that Hans had posted it?

actually aquariumfishguy, it's usually more nutritious too. In the aquarium and to Oscars, I don't know but I know guys who use dogfood to feed catfish ponds and the fish are massive and healthy but then they have natural foods from bugs and plants that get in the pond as well so maybe there's the difference. When I was a kid my Dad had a pair of breeder Oscars in an old metal frame tank in the basement. My brother and I used to sneak into the fish room and feed them dogfood- we thought it was a hoot that you could stand beside the tank and hear them crunching it.

Would not recommend it- the fats are all wrong and grain based foods (most commercial dogfood) are not suitable for water animals. Think about it.

OMG, no offense guys but you really do get uptight over fish stuff. And I wouldn't feed him the food every day but yeah maybe as an occasional treat or something but maybe try softening it up?
