ive attached a pic of my tank at the moment i know the fake plants are a bit tacky looking but im only a noob and am afraid to dive into the realm of a planted tank, not yet anyway.
its a 25G tank
Question:
is there too many plants/ornaments?
and is there swiming room for my 4 swordtails?
my fish seem to like it as it is they love the bubble wall (center) and chasing each other through the the big giant plant at the left background,

I think it looks very nice! :) I think if you added any other ornaments it would be too much, but what you have should be okay for the fish.

Well, other than keeping in mind that decorations reduce water volume, there's really not a problem. Fish that have lots of hiding spaces are more social--they don't have to worry about guarding any given spot, so are willing to swim around more.

wow jonny p, that's a very nice looking aquarium!

I think you have a good balance with a nice design and open spaces, too. The plants in the back left and directly behind the 'log' especially look good for fake; I like the effect of one leaning over it, too. Is that a fake log as well?

While I do think it's possible to have too many decorations, your tank isn't anywhere near that point - it looks great! The fish won't mind if the plants are plastic, they just want some shelter so they feel safe.

There was a 65g display tank at my LFS set up with about twenty 12" long plastic pirate ships piled up inside - now THAT was too many decorations :)

I agree with the others, Jonny, your tank looks good. Mine has driftwood, stones and lots of plants so is fuller than yours, but I still search the substrate for room for "just one more" plant.
