I have a Blue Angelfish that is extremely territorial towards other angels, has a head bump, red eyes, beautiful finnage but has a large papilla some what of a females. Could it be I'm looking at the wrong thing or what? Heres some bad pics:

It is almost impossible to sex an angel until they start breeding. Then and ONLY then can you be 100% sure what you have.

Even with the most educated "Guess" you are still looking at a 50/50 shot of guessing correctly which means that your guess is as good as mine.

But if you really want a guess, I would say................female.

Now your turn. lol

the only 100% ID of the sex is accomplished when they spawn.

the female will have a blunt tube the male longer thin pointed tube.

all other physical traits are random.

I have seen females larger than males. I have also seen female with the hump/bump on the head

The head bump is called a bucchal hump and is usually found in matured males (after several years). I do not see that in your pictures.

I think you mean nuchal hump and as Star_Rider already said, when it comes to angelfish, there are females that have a nuchal hump.

I would have 'guessed' female, as well. But as the others have said, I have a 50/50 shot of getting it right. ;) Nice Blue, you have there. It has some good looking finnage.

It does have lovely blue in it. Why are you so set on finding out the sex? Are you wanting to breed it?
