Cichlids and Gouramis? Friends or Foes?

I was just wondering, can you place cichlids and gouramis together? Also, won't the cichlids destroy live plants?

what sort of cichlid do you mean? some will some won't

"cichlids" covers alot of ground ... there are thousands of different cichlids. many will destroy live plants but leave gourami alone. many others will leave live plants alone but destroy gourami. many will do both.
