I read a reply on another post that said it is important that filter input and output hoses are the same length. I have a small loop in my input line as it is longer. Also, due to my breaking the nipple on the output line I had to use a slightly larger diameter hose, 1/2 inch vs 12/16mm. Am I asking for trouble with this setup? Here is a picture.

The extra loop will only cause head loss. Not that big of a deal unless you are barely getting by with filtration.

The tubing size I have no idea about.

The loop could also hinder the initial prime/siphon....

Within the scheme of your average aquarium hose length giver or take a few feet does not make that much difference and different manufactures will recommend different maximum and minimum lengths which are subjective, But almost all manufacturers recommend against a loop because it really acts like a sink trap to slow water down and may cause a build up in debris in the loop. I would remove the loop by shortening the hose or making a long drape or turn but not a tight loop like that.

Oh and yes from a hydraulic standpoint the shorter the hose for a given size, the less resistance but this comes into play only after several feet, the straighter your hoses are without loops, bends, turns the less resistance, and of course since you went to a larger inside diameter hose, that also lowers resistance. But the loop should go.
