hi.

I have a question on the media for canister filters. I plan on getting the Eheim classic 2213 filter. The media does not come with the filter so I dont know which to get. For mechanical filtration should i get course or fine media? what do I do about the biological filtration? Do I get bio-balls and just throw them in there? Am I suppose to layer the media in a special order? or can i just throw each layer of filtration on top of each other?

You want mechanical and biological... mostly biological in my opinion. A nice balanced tank with good bio filtering stays clean easy without the need for too much mechanical filtration. So you want some sort of sponge, fiber matting, etc for the mechanical and then ceramic rings, biomax, cell-pore type bio-media, and also some bioballs if you like. The mechanical filter goes before the biological so that you don't block the pores.

The eheim 2213 should come with all the media and pads in the box. I have eheims running on two of my tanks and the media always was in the box from the get go.
