I want opinions on this,i have 2 marineland canister filters on my tank, came with the carbon,i have always replaced it.my question is,would it be better to just not use the carbon (unless i need to for the purpose that it does)and just replace it with more bio-media? i also look at oscarfish.com and most people recomend not to use it.What do you think?

You may not need it depending on your tap parameters. It is an additional expense that most folks do not need. Some folks think water changes replace the need for carbon, but that isn't really true.

Carbon does other things than remove meds and tannins. I prefer to use it as the water achieves better clarity and removes impurities found in my tap water.

I actually use a Magnum HOT Canister just to use carbon. I find my tank smells less "fishy" when I have fresh carbon in it. It never smells bad, I just like it to smell really good. It is a 55 gallon aquarium with goldfish in my office, so I have to keep it really clean. I have two other canisters handling the bio work, so I don't really even need the Magnum HOT canister.
