hi.
we are in the middle of setting up at 125 gallon for our RES. In all likelihood we are going with a canister filter. However, from most pictures the overhanging uptake tubes only come down about 3-5 inches into the tank. We've looked at boxes and websites but can't seem to find out whether the uptake tubes can be extended or have extenders. Our water is going to be about 4-6 inches from the top of the tank, and we would want it IN the water, not just skimming the surface.

So, can they be extended?

Thanks for helping turtle newbies!

Hrm, my eheim intake tube is quite long - it's J-shaped, and the shorter end is the part that goes outside the tank. The long, straight part is the one inside the tank.

For your problem, though, I think it would be fine to attach a length of appropriate-diameter tubing to the bottom of your intake tube. Just find some tube with a slightly larger diameter than your intake tube, and slide it over the intake ending! It'll be more difficult to prime your filter (unless it auto-primes), but once it's running, you should be golden.

My magnum 350 drops down about 6-8 inches and has a coupling that allows for another 6-8 inch extension. It is something I inherited and is an old one. Not sure if the new one is the same or not.
