sorry if this is a stupid question but how do canister filters take in and put out water ? ( do you have pics on a tank ) whats it look like

Intake tube works like a syphon, outake works off the canister motor.

sorry i wanst clear
i know how they actually work im wondering how they look on the tank

The canister goes under the tank in the stand all you'll see are 2 hoses iin the tank-Anne

Typically speaking the inlet tube of a cannister filter looks like the inlet tube of a power filter and is placed on one side of the tank. Outlet tubes vary a bit, but they are generally place on the side of the tank opposite of the inlet. Normally speaking they really aren't too noticable unless the materials are made of an unusual color. I know my fluval 404 came with grey outlets and inlets and I don't find them to be too noticable, but I have changed my inlet to a clear and black set up. Well right now its a clear and dark green because of algea set up.

The intake tube is on the left. The heater is the diagnal thing that I placed in very poorly. Then the spray-bar is across the top. I actually want to move the spray bar to the side to give the tank a stream like flow.
