canister filters

Do canister filters work better than the filters that hang outside the tank?
I am intrested in canister filters but I don't know that much about them.
Right now both my 10 gallon and 30 gallon have whisper filters on them and my 5 gallon has a bio-wheel. Do canister filters work better than the other filters?

i like them a lot better but they both work the same way. stick with what you have.

i like them too but there's no 'magic' in a cannister. they work the same way a HOB filter does but you can put in more media. is more media necessary? if you've got a large tank, cannisters have more capacity .. for your tanks, i'd not spend money on a new filter.

keep the filters you have unless you really want a canister for your 30.

canisters are basically the same as HOBs except the allow for less gas exchange, which is good for planted tanks.
