I have tried both mystery and nerite snails recently and they live vigoriosly for a week or two and then they die. Fish seem fine. Water parameters are normal with the exception of a low ph and high GH. Aquarium is 20 gal planted.

Here are the readings from just a short time ago.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 25
Ph 6
Temp 78
KH 50-100 ppm
Could never get GH to register the color indicated. Could be my test is old? What is the best way to get GH down and increase PH to around a 7? Thanks for any suggestions.

Are there any physical changes to their shell that you noticed while you had them and do you use tap water for your tank?

No changes, one day they are scooting all over the tank and then they are dead. Yes, I do use treated tap water which has never been a problem before.

Have you ever used anything with copper in that tank? Just throwing that out as a guess. Copper will kill off most inverts and some fish meds have copper in them.

i used to have mystery snails but they'd always get sucked into the water intake of my HOB filter and get stuck and die. It's always the big snails that get stuck. Never the tiny snails. Or if they do, I don't really notice.

I also suspect some other metals like copper in the water. If your parameters are normal and there's no physical changes to the shell, it should be some kinda chemicals that are killing them.

Or some fish picking on them to death.

I thought about that too. My endlers are very nippy, and they will nip my Briggs to death. They are not too terrible with the smaller nerites, but any big snail they can nip they will do it until the snail dies and then they eat it. They now live in a snail free environment outside of pest snails lol.
