Hey all,

I was just wondering if the carbon insert in my aqaclear ( its been in there for like 4 months) would be messing up the maracyn two ive been using to treat a fish with popeye. I completely forgot to take it out, but does it matter? because its not activated?

Thanks

Its normally recommended to take out any carbon or any kind of ammonia remover from the filter when using meds.

How is it possible to do that with the filters that just take a cartridge. Ex..Dynaflo1, Aquq Regent, etc...? If I were to take it out there would be nothing filtering my water.

Do yourself a favor and start saving money on expensive replacements. Go here for information. I am currently using "Morning Glory high loft Quilter's Polyester Batting" that I bought from Wal-Mart for like four bucks; along with this method as I will only use carbon to remove meds.

These are the filters on my 10g tanks. Here is a real pet peeve. I bought a new 55g kit on Friday and when I unpacked the box there was no filter just the bio-bags. It is supposed to have a Whisper 60g. Now I have to wait for the LFS where I bought it to get one in. It is not part of their regular stock. Is that a good filter???

Yeah that's the downside to Emperor's, Penguins and Aqua-Tech filters.. everything is all on/in the cardtridge, that's what I like about Aquaclears, the fact that if you just remove a carbon bag, you still have your sponge and/or other media! :)

But yes, since carbon has absorbtion properties, and thus it is always best to remove it right before you medicate the aquarium. ;)

I've never used a Whisper. I know some people do. I also know they are an older generation of filter. I like Penguin filters for unplanted tanks (and smaller planted tanks) myself. My larger tank will have a couple of canisters on it.
