Hey guys first time i am posting here but have been lurking on here for a while and get great stuff from this site.

My question is.... I just put carbon in my filter for the first time.. and now there seems to be some bubbles coming out of the filter is that normal? They are almost like little foam bubbles.

I have an emperor 400 filter and i put the carbon in one of the silver media bays.

Thanks.

carbon has tens of thousands of interstitial space (pores) throughout the matrix which is what makes carbon such a good adsorber of organic compounds. until this matrix is completely filled with water, there's alot of air which bubbles out when you first put the carbon in your filter. as the pores gradually fill with water, the bubbles will stop. next time, thoroughly rinse the carbon before placing in your filter.

Thanks for the reply.

I did rinse the carbon a couple of times, i guess i didnt do it enough. I just wanted to make sure the bubbles are not harmful to the fish.

Thanks for the reply.
