I have recently purchased 2 silver dollars for my 141litre 4 foot tank. They share this with 3 immature angels, 2 young talking catfish and 2 brochis spendens. When I feed this tank in the evening I put in frozen 'meaty' food for the angels and catfish (cichlid chow, bloodworms etc), and 'greens' for the dollars.

I was amazed to find the silver dollars preferring the 'meaty' food and ignoring my veggies  . There are also ample plants in the tank which they appear not to have touched. Having read some info. about them this seems unusual as they are always listed as herbivores.

They seem confident and happy on this regime, but I am worried that they will not be getting the necessary fibre that they need, especially if they have a gut designed to process plants. Do you think that eating all this meat will harm them. I am really fond of them and hope to get more when my lfs has them again to allow them to shoal with their own species.

If they're herbavors they need veg matter, bloat is a common problem with inadequately veg lacking diets.Try cooked crushed peas, spirilia or some other veg. based flake. Even my carnivors get veg matter stuck in their food.
