I was wonder if any of you guys out there with cascade canister filters have made any mods to them. I have the 1500 and im kicking my self right now for getting one, especially after seeing Gunners review of the SUNSUN.

There seems to be soooooooo much bypass. Correct me if im wrong but the filter is suppose to work from the bottom up right? Yet my top tray with just filter floss, is the dirtiest. That's suppose to be like the water polishing tray and after going through 4 other trays i would think the top one would be almost spotless.

Well post up any mods that maybe others of us can try out.

Thanks.

i would say maybe put a small bead of silicone around the edge of the baskets to form a seal and act like a gasket. ive never used this filter so idk how the baskets fit in.

thats my suggestion

^ that is the worst suggestion i ever heard WeedCali ^

what media's you have in each basket from the bottom to the top one?

Bottom has sponge filter than filter floss on top of that. (comes with filter)
next tray has floss and a bag of carbon on top (comes with filter)
next tray has bio-ball
next tray has ceramic rings with filter floss on top
Top tray just has filter floss.

its not lose filter floss but sheets that came with the filter.

i use to use cascade canisters before i switched to large wet/dry filters. i never diid like that black foam cascades gives you it never catches much dirt and crud i threw mine out and replaced it with polyester batting you get in a large sheet at walmart and cut my pads to fit the filter trays and used the bottom 2 trays with that then the trays above that i used bio balls and very top tray i used more batting yes they get dirty faster then using that black cascade foam but my water stayed alot clearer in my tanks. and cleaning a filter a little more often didnt bother me.

i'm using a 1000 right now.

i tossed their black crap too... and the carbon... don't want to buy that every month...

i added pea gravel at the bottom (been considering leca lately)... kinda heavy but i had it around
then a filter foam block cut in half and put both halves side by side and trimmed to fit tightly
then poly pads
then 100 micron sheet cut to fit
then more poly pads

i have considered wrapping one of the baskets with micron pad to make it fit tight but the filter works fine as it is. if it aint broke don't fix it kinda thing.

after the filter i have my heater plumbed in as well as a uv sterilizer. my water is always crystal clear and there's nothing but intake and discharge tubes in my aquarium... other than thermostats.

Cascades have serious bypass issues, to counter this all I did was stuff floss in the sides of the baskets. But that got old quick and I sold it.
I wouldn't toss the sponge you probably have a decent ammount of bio living on it.
