catalina aquarium lights

there are better choice but is it worth it to you. i think these each have their own reflective also. http://www.fishneedit.com/t5ho-ligh.html

they are cheap but they work. i dont own them personally but i have read people who got them and they do work.

i think its a better option then 3-4 times more for tek lights lol

also if you call them they are known to change out the bulbs to the ones you want and toss in the legs. might even ask them why they upped the price maybe get a discount but thats just a guess on my part lol

Not to highjack the thread, but for the link Mgamer provided, which bulbs would be best for a 75g freshwater planted tank? It gives the option of all white, 1 white & 1 blue, all blue, or 1 white & 1 pink. I'm thinking all white or white/pink? And color temp for the bulbs? It gives the options of 67K, 10K, 14K, and 20K.

Another thread hijac, sorry. Does anyone know what color/temp the CPF lights are that you get for the DIY CPF light kit? I am building that one, still waiting for the 2-lamp units to come in. Also, can you buy different temperatures than what the standard incandescent ----> CPF bulbs come in?

I have had that exact fixture on my 75 for about 4 months. It's a LOT of light. I've been really happy with both the light and their service. All my high-light plants are growing really well. I have the plant-gro bulbs they offer (6700K), but I think the reflectors are good enough and the output high enough that I suspect I could replace one with an Actinic bulb to bring out interesting colors in the fish and still have enough light for the plants. I haven't done that yet, so I'm not completely sure.

The reflectors are excellent at putting all the light straight down into the tank. My only caution is that it does put out a fair amount of heat, but assuming you have a heater with a thermostat it isn't really an issue with tropical fish.

The prices on the website linked above has good prices, depending on the application. If all you want is Java moss then their 2-bulb model for $67 looks great, but if you want to grow high light plants then you probably need more than that, and I definitely think it's worth the extra $35 to have a single 4-light fixture rather than 2 2-bulb fixtures.

The upped price is for the legs and splashguard that is now standard.

@debaric, I purchased that exaxt fixture about 2 months ago, I placed it over a 75gal and with the legs, and the light output is on par with fixtures costing twice as much or more, which I can attest to, since I also own a Current Extreme Pro. That exact model, uses the same housing as the Coralife 4x65watt PC fixtures, down to the legs, and splashguards, just the switches have been moved.

As for fishneedit.com, when I was purchasing my Catalina fixture, I knew they were around, but I hadnt heard any reviews, and still really havent yet. But I have been recommending them, when someone is trying to get the cheapest lighting possible.

FWIW, I know a guy that knows a guy :hypnotized: that claims to have had problems with some light from fishneedit.

However, one or two people in SFBAAPS have ordered lights from them, but only recently, so I haven't heard any reviews. As far as price and delivery, everything was cool.

I've had two of the 48" fishneedit lights for about 10 months. They're good lights.IMO So far I've not had anything that's not flourished under them, except Java Moss. I've come to the conclusion that I'm doomed to be moss less :mad2:
