Hi,

Right now my 20 gallon tank is fully cycled and has been running for about 3 months now. I've got 5 praecox rainbows about 1 inch each and 6 pygmy corys (well 5 pygmys and 1 habrosus but I didn't find that out until I got them home). I keep the tank at 76 degrees and do a 25% water change weekly.

I really like my rainbows but am a little disappointed in the corys because they schooled a lot when I first got them but have settled down and aren't as active now. I know that my praecox will color up as they mature but right now there is very little color in my tank. I want to add a "centerpiece" fish that has a lot of color and can be kept alone. I was thinking of a betta (I've heard of them being kept in community tanks) or maybe a dwarf gourami. My only concern is that the rainbows are SO active that they might stress out a betta or dwarf gourami. I know that my tank is close to fully stocked but I entered all of my info on aqadvisor and it says my stocking level is 67%. Also, if neither of these is a valid option I was thinking about maybe adding 6 more pygmy corys or another praecox or two but I'd really like something flashy and active for a centerpiece if at all possible. Or maybe someone could suggest a different centerpiece fish? Just fishing for ideas.

The praecox will grow to 3". Since you already have 5 of them, you don't want to add more fish unless you plan to get a bigger tank in the near future.
