Central African blackwater biotope

awsome! i may do that with my 75. or even my 55 ( considering that tank is by the window ) so where did you get all these plants and how did you go about setting the tank up like that?

Hi,

yes, you would definitely need a large window for the cyperus to grow. I put in two cyperus plants - by now, each one has more than 100 stalks and some of the stalks grew to a height of 2 meters... so, you also need a pretty high ceiling... I experimented with some smaller varieties of cyperus, but they didn't do well. Probably out-competed by the big ones.

I got my cyperus from a local garden centre. The echinodorus, microsorium and anubias are from the lfs... aquatic plants are rarely found here... I paid over $30 for each anubias....:angryfire:. Although they're African plants, they were imported from Malaysia... sigh...

If you're interested, there is a more detailed build thread here: http://www.apsa.co.za/board/index.php?topic=5294.0
