I just bought a two inch ceylon puffer about a month ago, and was wondering what everyone's experiences are with them. I have read about as much as I could about them, but there is not a lot of info on them. He is doing quite well, and is very personable, but I want to make sure he gets a good life style so any tips would help, like food, specific amount of salt, temp, eventual size, tanksize preference, tankmates if any. Personal experience is always great when dealing with new fish.

Thanks

great. You get ceylons in KAMLOOPS but i've yet to see one in 2 years anywhere in the lower mainland. What a jip! =(
The only info I can give you is that feed him shelled foods, keep it in brackishwater using marine salt (not aquarium salt). Use a coral substrate to buffer the ph and keep the alkalinity up. I also would make sure he doesn't have any tankmates, because it'd probably wind up chowing down on them.
Pufferpunk has one in marine conditions with two adult green spotted puffers, so I think you should be thinking about slowly raising the salinity to marine conditions over the next few years.
If you don't already have one get a full range hydrometer, the one by aquarium systems is a good one.
Oh and don't listen to anything the people who own your pet shop tell you, my buddy says they're about as "choice" as you can get.

Thanks for all the input. I was the most curious about tank size and the salt content and whether or not to work slowly to marine, is this what ceylons prefer? Right now I'm at about 1.012. I feed him frezed dried and frozen krill, blood worms, brineshrimp, snails, ghostshrimp and right now he's munchy on a dead crayfish. He also chews on two big shells that I have in the tank from time to time
There are a ton of ceylons in town most labled as giant figure 8s even ones that were around 4-5 inches. Kinda show you how much they know about fish.

My Ceylon is the prettiest of all my 14 puffers. She is around 5-6" & gets along fine w/my 2 6" GSPs. Ceylons grow a bit larger than GSPs, about 7-8". Mine is at 1.022. She seems to be a bit shyer & grow a little slower than the GSPs, but she can handle herself w/them at feeding time, even though she's a little smaller.
