I just obtained a bag full of chaetomorpha. After doing research I learned that many place them in their refugium rather than in their display tank. What I haven't being able to find is their light requirement.
Do they need any light at all? If they do, how much?

PS What are their main benefit?

from what ive heard chaeto will pretty much grow under just about any light conditions, but as it always goes, the more the better. the main benefit of any macro algae is that they use up phosphates and nitrates reducing the chance of a nuisance algae outbreak. HTH

It definitely needs light. In my experience, it does well with a color temp around 5000-6700. The intensity depends on how close the light is. I have had good luck with a little 13 watt PC light when it is a few inches away from the surface.

Good advice

I second Mog.. his advice is right on once agian. A 6 inch 13 watt pc bulb 5500-7000k is perfectthey love the yellow, a cheap fixture is all you need.
