I dunno whats up. Some change color determining sex at an age, wonder if thats what happening??

I don't know. My occies will do that too. Some days they are really dark colored. Other days, they more pale. Not to mention, if someone is in their territory, their irridence really comes through.

How long have you had your fish? Have you done a water change recently? Sometimes when I do a water change, they will change their colors too. I don't know if it was just the quality of the second picture, but some of his fins look like he has been fighting. Could be stress?

it's the pic. He wouldn't stay still so it came out blurry. I do 40% every week, I did water changes about 4 days ago. The tanks been running for 6~ months now. All levels check out fine and no visible signs of stress. I just noticed it this afternoon when I got home from work, He was the regular color this morning when I fed them

hmm.. strange. maybe he is in mood. I wouldn't worry about it if he seems okay.

yeah this is possibly the sign of a changing color form due to it being a male, when young they take on the presence of a female which is what the first photo would indicate and the males turn blue to purple and also if a sex change was evident, its not heard of when a female turns into a male due to breeding rights, also with mbuna they will change color when they are experiencing mood changes like feeding, stress or breeding events but this usually is where they turn darker not another color, cool deal..
