I am switching from 2 Penguin 350 HOB filters with biowheels to a Penn Plax Cascade 1000 canister filter on my 75 gallon tank. I plan on letting the HOB filters continue to run while my canister filter builds up a decent bioload. So my question is how long should I continue to run the HOB filters? Weeks? Months?

A couple weeks leaving the old filters on the tank as long as the tank is mature and been up and running a few months.
Good call on the filter switch. I've never cared for bio wheel HOBs at all. Is there any chance at using any of the media from the HOBs into the canister?
