I have decided that my oscar tank needs to be changed, so i was thinking about changing the gravel to sand and adding some rocks and plants. What would be the best way to do this? i do have another container i can put all the fish in, but will the tank cycle again because of all the bacteria in the gravel being removed? and also will the oscar stil rip up plants if i put rocks around the base of the plants?
thanx

i have just realised that my oscar likes to eat of the bottom, will the sand do anything to him because he usually takes a mouthful of of gravel with his food.

I switched the gravel out for sand in my mixed african cichlid tank.

First I washed the sand, took all the gravel out, then added the sand and I left the fish in the tank. I'm not too familiar with oscars but my peacocks, calvus and mbuna are all good at seperating food from sand.

just another question, because the sand will be lighter will that make the oscar change colors? he is black and i have noticed with other fish like my bristlenoses will change colors depending on the darkness of the gravel.
thanx
