Cheap Background

How does one go about attaching a store-bought background to a tank with vaseline or veggie oil??

I take the background after it is cut to size, then lay it flat on a table. Then I just use my hand and cover the background with as even of a coat of veg oil as I can, smearing it all over to cover it completely. Then I place it on the glass and smooth out the air bubbles with a credit card or plastic scraper. I wouldn't use Vaseline, I heard some negative things about it.

can you elaborate please? i use vaseoline and havent experienced any troubles... just wondering what you have heard

and desertgoldhound can you take a picture of the timfoil background? im curious to see what that looks like

I've used the vaseline before with the store bought backing but because it was thick, too thick for vegetable oil to hold in place. The vaseline is thicker and strong and holds the thicker pieces in place but tends to wear out after a couple years and you need to reapply. As far as any negative things, I might think that because of it's thickness (vaseline) that it's tough to get off when you want it removed but I didn't have that problem as I never removed it.

I have this "designer" backround that i bought. It is made out of a plastic, almost a pool liner type material. Thge problem is that I can't get any tape to stick to it. Does anyone know of anything that will adhere to it?

I use Scotch Crystal tape and black electrical tape.

what about Xmas wrapping paper?

I think most fish would like to see reindeer, candy canes and fir trees.

Mostly what dangerdoll said about it being hard to remove after it ages a while. I made a real mirror background once for a 5 gal tank. It made the tank look twice as big.
