I added two bags of chemi-pure to my Ehiem 2215 after my 55g FW tank finished initial cycling with few hardy fish. The tank has been running for two months - three weeks with the chemi-pure. Last weekend, I added a few fish that probably doubled the bio-load in the tank. I expected a small bounce in ammonia and nitrite, but am getting results that I don't know how to interpret and I expect that the chemi-pure is the cause.
I have elevated ammonia and NO nitrites or nitrates from my Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Freshwater Master Test Kit. I am trying to control the ammonia with water changes and reduced feeding, but the fish are still showing signs of stress. Any experience with this? The chemi-pure is supposed to neutralize nitrates and nitrites, but I didn't expect it to eliminate them or perhaps it is just interfering with my testing chemicals ability to detect? Any comments on what Chemi-pure may be doing to my tank chemistry?
