I've used Chemi-Pure for years with great success, but have always wondered
about Purigen. How does it compare to Chemi-Pure? Does the 6 months for C.P. vs the rechargeable factor make Purigen the winner? I'm running a Eheim 2026 for a 55g freshwater tank with an oscar, texas cichlid, convict, plecos & raphaels.

Thanks!
Andy

From what I've read from Seachem, Purigen's primary purpose is to remove organic nitrogen. That consists of things like fish food/fish waste and other such dissolved things in the water. I mainly use it because it's a great water polisher  You can recharge Purigen up to 6 times I believe, and Purigen is just used up when it's used up. Mine is used up about every 2 weeks (but I have a planted tank, not too sure if that effects it or not).

As far as Chemi-Pure, Chemi-Pure made me a bit nervous. When I looked at a few websites selling Chemi-Pure, they claimed that Chemi-Pure prolongs fish life, eliminates the need for water changes AND acclimation, and keeps a constant pH. There was just a few websites that had this about chemi-pure, and the people who make the stuff don't have a website, so I'm not too sure if they'd tell you the stuff does all that or not. But what I like about Seachem is they're very straight about what their product does - removes organic nitrogen and polishes water.
