Ive had a small (2-3") picasso triggerfish for about a week now and he seems to be doing great. But everytime I feed him he chews the food and spits it out. Most of the time it looks like he didnt really swallow any of it.

I've tried Mysis, Omega Brine, Marine Cuisine, some algae fortified stuff, and even the special trigger formula with urchin. Some of it he ignores, and the rest of the time he does the chew and spit.

Any thoughts?

eh, i dont think so... ive always read and heard they are messy eaters, but im just trying to find some food that will really get him excited

he def took the krill with a bit more gusto. I think he is just getting used to his new home and ate some mysis with a bit more table manners and didnt spit it all out

My Pinktail Trigger was exactly the same. I used to put a whole prawn with shell on in the tank (holding it with grabbers not fingers!!!) and he used to go wild at the that. Otherwise he used to eat the same as my other fish which is a mixture of all sorts.

how big was your pinktail when you were feeding the prawn to it? My guy is little (maybe 3 in)

He was probably getting on for about 6 inches. He used to bite a chunk, then you could see him trying to chew it, spit out and try and suck it in again. Unfortunately for him, my other fish got used to this routine and tried to get in at the "spit out" stage;)

I think your guy is big enough to have a go at it (my chromis did:))
