Chinese algae eaters

Don’t assume your CAE will live only off algae. Feed him veggies, algae wafers and other sinking food. Mine also adores shrimp pellets and frozen brine shrimp and to a lesser degree, blood worms. I know I’m in the minority (or maybe the only-ity), but I like my CAE, he has been a great fish for 11 years, has never attacked anything and still eats algae – or at least is still rasping on the tank walls, plants and rocks. When instances of plecos or otos attacking fish happens, they are defended because they have been improperly fed – when a CAE does that, he is just labeled as bad.

I’m sorry, I do not know the size of your tank? The only problem I can see is that you said you have CAEs – plural. They are territorial (not unlike cichlids but in cichlids it seems to be understandable, in CAEs it’s not tolerated). Do you have caves for them? They like caves and perhaps if each had its own, you’d be OK, although I’m not sure… I’ve only ever had one CAE in a tank.

I'm one of the minority too kveeti.

I love my 2 CAE's.
They chase each other around and are a kick for my 3 year old to watch as they suck on everything.
For the time being as they are young, about 4 weeks old, dunno what will happen when they get older but fortunately according to that link someone posted they shouldnt get more than 6" or so.

I've also read they dont all get nasty and can live long happy lives together with the other fish as one big happy family :thm:

I tried feeding mine everything I could think he might like, but it seems he liked my tetras best. I have since found a better home for him.

I have 1 CAE in my 75G tank now for about 2 yrs. Its grown only to about 4-5" in that time and not sure if its still growing or not. Dispite what many have said, mine hasnt shown hardly any aggression and is more active at algea eating than my SAE's are. He sometimes fights with my tiger loach when either invades eithers space, but that tiger loach is kinda agresive anyhow and looking back on it I wish I hadnt purchased him.

are these cinese algae eaters?

they were called golden sucking loaches in the pet shop, i have two of them in my 15gal with some tetras platys and an african dwarf frog, they have no interest in the other fish but are always chasing eachother around. i dont think they could do much damage with those funny shaped mouths anyways could they?
they are keeping my bogwood spotless and they seem to like sinking pellets too.
