Can anyone please tell me, will the activated carbon in my aquaclear 30 filter neutralize chloramine? I have had the filter running in a fishless tank for a couple of days .
thanks,
Jan
nope carbon will not remove chlorine or chloramine.
fishieperson read ur second link it sayes:"it provides superior adsorption qualities which eliminate odors, discoloration and impurities", so no chlorine.
I use a Chlorine/Chloramine remover by hagen and I've never had a problem(I think ).
It clearly states 'Removes chlorine' right below the bullet that says that it supports bio filtration. I will email them and let you guys know what they say. Actually I will call them. I will let you know in a second.
I was just told by someone that I know that works for Rolf C. Hagen that, yes, it removes chlorine, chloramine, pesticides, aerosol, bleach, cleaning agents, and some trace elements. They told me alot of other stuff that it removes, but I can't remember them. I should have written them down. :mad2:
You should never rely on carbon to remove chlorine or chloramine. Always use a good dechlorinator such as AquaSafe. Carbon will remove it if you rinse your nets or algae scrubbers before using them in your aquarium.
Point well taken about the carbon. I will pick up a conditioner very soon, certainly before my first water change. Things seem to be going well though, I've had 3 silver tipped tetras in the tank for 3 days and just tested and came up with-
amonia bet .25 and .50
nitrite close to 0
nitrate less than .25 ppm
