Hello Everyone,

I have a 55 gallon freshwater tank that I put up about 10 days ago.

I started the tank cycling with bio-zyme and a few goldies in the water.

Should I change the water at all during the "cyclling" of the tank.

My ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrites: 0ppm
Nitrates: 0 ppm

No plants

Some gravel

Bio Wheel and Sponge filter

Your help please

Goldfish? Changing the water as you normally would (25% every two weeks minimum) cant harm the cycle and is beneficial to your fish. Good luck with your tank, and merry christmas! :)

I see you have test kits. That is good. Bio-zyme does nothing beneficial to a tank so don't expect miracles. The cycle will take close to 4 weeks or so unless you seed the tank with real bacteria from an established tank. The best thing is old filter material or else some rocks or decorations.

Test the water every other day at the start. If the ammonia starts to climb above 1ppm then do a water change and get it down to less than that. If the nitites get above 0.25 ppm then do a water change. This may mean daily large water changes sometimes and at certain points daily testing. Eventually the ammonia will stay at zero after a water change and a waiting period of 24 hours. The same will then happen in a little while with nitites and in the end you will be left with only nitrates showing up. The tank will be cycled at that point.

That will keep the fish healthy and happy and give them a shot at a long life.

Weekly water changes once cycled are the ebst thing. They are freshwater fish and there can never be enough fresh water for them.
