Dilemma stocking the tank

Hi all

I am completley new to this all, but I have managed to successfully cycle a 15 gallon (US) tank to which i introduced 3 black mollies 2 weeks ago, amazed how quickly they are growing. I also just introduced 3 harlequin rasboras, and due to there size i have named them after the brothers in Malcolm in the Middle! lol

I am going to wait 2 weeks before I add any more fish, keeping a close eye on water quality.

Would it be a good idea to add more 2-3 more harlequins and mollies in the near future, to accompany existing fish? or 3 of another species, as they current fish are behaving very confidently and also are very active.

I am also looking to introduce a betta at some point, would this fish be happy alone or would it be advisable to provide him the company of 2 lady friends?

also a part of me wants to ditch all the plans above and introduce a dwarf gourami with perhaps a female partner, as they like to swim in pairs and perhaps a lone betta! As long as they play nice together, ps the large molly currently is the boss of the tank!

As you can see i am a very confused young man, can anyone provide guidance, it would be much appreciated. If you have been through similar experiences through the ideas suggested above it would be good to hear from you too.

Definitely work the rasboras out to at least 6. They are a schooling fish and need lots of friends.

Dunno about the mollies, someone else will have to answer that one :)

It's preferred that bettas be housed alone. Sometimes they will accept lady friends, but if they don't it can get messy :)

Don't mix gouramis and bettas, bad juju.

I had a betta that was in a 30gallon with some rasboras and he delievered the killing blow to one of the rasboras. He was quite shy most of the time but i think when the lights went out he might have gotten nasty.

yeh i guess your right there. The behaviour i have seen with the mollies are they dogroup together at times but have personalities and do things on an individual basis too, where as the 3 halrequin rasbroa stick together and swim like a school. So i may buy 3 more to complete the set of rasbora.

I wonder if mollies of a different variation with interact with my black mollys?
is there any other fish that display strong personalities?

my mollies who were the first in the tank have 3 totally differing personalities, my biggest black molly I have named stone cold steve molly due to it being the owner of the fish tank and fearless and was the first to eat from my finger tips.
