Actually, Fairfax County VA it's "Winter Holidays" and not Christmas, Easter is "Spring Break" and no longer Easter.

What burns my bahooters is that Hallowe'en is still Hallowe'en -- well, except of course, the Americans changed the spelling to "Halloween" . So, it's okay to keep a Pagan holiday just the way it is, but not a Christian or Catholic one?

Shee-yah!

Next Hallowe'en I'm going to sic my favorite bats on anyone who stomps on traditions :)

I'm just way too tired of "political correctness" .

We've gone too far........

HEY....nobody tries to change Chanakha (however you spell that) on the Jewish folks....or ramadan on the Muslims..........or any other holiday on anyone else ! Nobody calls a manora anything but a manora...it's not called a "Holiday Candle" is it ?

So tell me........why has Christmas become so offensive ? Why is it that only Christians need to be "tolerant" of everyone else...but no one has to tolerate the Christian ???

Here's why.....

"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. No servant is greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also..............They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me......." (spoken by Jesus.......John 15:18-21)

Soo, no big surprise to anyone who follows Christ....

Christmas is a CHRISTIAN holiday. Enough said. Jewish people don't celebrate it, Muslim people don't celebrate it, etc. We're not going to call the Menorah the "holiday candle holder".

If you don't think it should be called a Christmas tree, then you shouldn't be celebrating Christmas.

Just a gentle reminder.

acceptable posts in the religious realm would be defined as: A poster asking for help because they have a sick relative. A poster putting a picture up that he/she has drawn that may have religious content but the poster is posting it in regards to the artwork and not the content i.e.: " I drew this picture last night, what do you think of my art form?"
Unacceptable posts would be of a debatable nature such as: The reality of Moses, Bible quotes, debating the different religions. These threads could also cause heavy debate, arguments and hurting people.

Thanks.

I interpreted this thread as being a question of "political correctness" being out of hand or not. Additionally it has been pointed out that the christmas tree was not an original Christian idea, but rather borrowed from a pagan idea at some point as are many things surrounding many of the "Christian Holidays"

This need not be turned into a religious debate in order for Folks to express their thoughts on whether or not the name of the Chrismas tree be changed.
Christians do celebrate christmas as a religious holiday, many other folks do not. Other folks do not celebrate christmas at all. Just like I do not celebrate Chanakha (however you spell that). The point is not one of religious debate or at least should not be. I Do not claim Christmas as solely a christian Holiday, nor do I have any intent of celebrating it in my own home as anything but a Christian holiday. There are millions of people who celebrate christmas and are not Christians. I have no qualms whatsoever with that. Let's all take heed of Morgunda's cautionary warning and get back to the opinions on whether or not to rename the tree.

I still think a picture of everyone in Halifax Thumbing their noses would be the best way to settle the issue.
