A Politically Correct Christmas Poem

Twas the night before Christmas and Santa's a wreck...
How to live in a world that's politically correct?
His workers no longer would answer to "Elves",
"Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves.
And labor conditions at the North Pole,
were alleged by the union, to stifle the soul.

Four reindeer had vanished without much propriety,
released to the wilds, by the Humane Society.
And equal employment had made it quite clear,
that Santa had better not use just reindeer.
So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid,
were replaced with 4 pigs, and you know that looked stupid!

The runners had been removed from his beautiful sleigh,
because the ruts were deemed dangerous by the EPA,
And millions of people were calling the Cops,
when they heard sled noises upon their roof tops.
Second-hand smoke from his pipe, had his workers quite frightened,
and his fur trimmed red suit was called "unenlightened".

To show you the strangeness of today's ebbs and flows,
Rudolf was suing over unauthorized use of his nose.
He went to Geraldo, in front of the Nation,
demanding millions in over-due workers compensation.

So...half of the reindeer were gone, and his wife
who suddenly said she'd had enough of this life,
joined a self help group, packed and left in a whiz,
demanding from now on that her title was Ms.

And as for gifts...why, he'd never had the notion
that making a choice could cause such commotion.
Nothing of leather, nothing of fur...
Which meant nothing for him or nothing for her.
Nothing to aim, Nothing to shoot,
Nothing that clamored or made lots of noise.
Nothing for just girls and nothing for just boys.
Nothing that claimed to be gender specific,
Nothing that's warlike or non-pacifistic.

No candy or sweets...they were bad for the tooth.
Nothing that seemed to embellish upon the truth.
And fairy tales...while not yet forbidden,
were like Ken and Barbie, better off hidden,
for they raised the hackles of those psychological,
who claimed the only good gift was one ecological.

No baseball, no football...someone might get hurt,
besides - playing sports exposed kids to dirt.
Dolls were said to be sexist and should be passe.
and Nintendo would rot your entire brain away.

So Santa just stood there, disheveled and perplexed,
he just couldn't figure out what to do next?
He tried to be merry he tried to be ***,
but you must have to admit he was having a very bad day.
His sack was quite empty, it was flat on the ground,
nothing fully acceptable was anywhere to be found.

Something special was needed, a gift that he might,
give to us all, without angering the left or the right.
A gift that would satisfy - with no indecision,
each group of people in every religion.
Every race, every hue,
everyone, everywhere...even you!
So here is that gift, it's price beyond worth...

An except from Christianitytoday.com:

Christmas has its origins in the fourth century. December 25, which Christians now herald as Jesus' birthday, was actually the date on which the Romans celebrated the birth of the sun god.

After the Roman emperor Constantine converted to Christianity at the Milvian Bridge in 312, he sought to combine the worship of the sun god with worship of Christ. Christian leaders accepted Constantine's conversion in a positive light and saw the "Christ-mass" celebration as a vital part of the process of converting the pagan world.
Long before Constantine, Christians found ways to redeem local cultures and salvage elements in those cultures that naturally pointed to Christ, whether Hebrew, Syrian, Greek, or Roman. They denounced inhumane pagan practices, but at the same time took over pagan temples and converted them to churches. They replaced the old gods in popular devotion with heroic martyrs of the persecutions. And they replaced the holy days of paganism with festivals of the Christian year.

As far as the topic of the pole..............

Even as an agnostic, I believe the tree should still be named a Christmas tree. I am not offended by religious symbols...........regardless of their orgins. I agree with whoever said that we should ecourage the display of symbols of all of the cultural and religious holliday symbols held dear by those in our communities.

December 25th will be renamed a non-denomanational winter holiday. ;) And as for renaming the Christmas tree...thats just plain foolishness. If it offends people, get over it. I'm sure if we dig deep enough we could all find something that offends us. There is no way to satisfy everyone.

You've seen Larry's 'The Night Before Non-denomanational Winter Holiday', haven't you? LOL

I've always called it a Christmas Tree, I will continue to do so.

They want to change it because it absolutely drives the PC crowd out of their collective minds....when other people feel differently than they do about anything.........so they attempt to force thier wonderful ideas and opinions down the throats of the rest of us via the courts and the ACLU........

resistance is futile...

First things first. The City of Boston has declared that there will be no name change and the Christmas Tree will still, in fact, be called a Christmas Tree.

I think changing the name is silly. If the name offends then so should the symbol. If you have no problem with the tree, then shut up about the name.

Christmas has been main streamed and commercialized to such a high degree that it has lost much of its religious content to a lot of people. I don't feel this is a bad thing however. Strip away the religion and what you get from Christmas is a roughly 4 week period where the average person feels a compulsion to be more generous and compassionate to their fellow man. I will certainly grant you that you also get plenty of focus on material things and those short term "That b@tch stole my parking space" outbursts of brotherly hate but for the most part its a good thing.

I do feel that government offices should refrain from displaying overtly religious displays like nativity scenes. The separation of church and state really ought to be obeyed. The post office doesn't need to display statues of religious figures on their lawn to show Christmas spirit. Lights will do.
